Bradley Barcola to Liverpool - Player Wants Move, but is PSG’s Valuation Problematic?

Liverpool have made Bradley Barcola their leading attacking target, who may not be seen as a direct Salah replacement, but he would certainty be viewed as the next superstar winger at the club. The France international is understood to be keen to a move to Anfield. However, PSG’s demand for a potentially British-record fee remains the decisive obstacle in negotiations.

The clearest progress has occurred on the player’s side. French newspaper L’Équipe reported on the 28th of July that Barcola had spoken with Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola and given his agreement in principle to the proposed move. The report stressed, however, that this did not amount to a completed contractual agreement between the player and Liverpool. Wide speculation since has however indicated that these personal terms could be much closer to a full agreement between the winger and Liverpool.

Why Barcola could leave PSG -

The situation developed after Barcola decided not to extend his PSG contract, which is currently due to expire in June 2028.

According to L’Équipe, the decision was primarily sporting rather than financial. PSG had offered the 23-year-old an improved deal, but Barcola was reportedly reluctant to commit his long-term future while continuing in a role that often left him outside the starting line-up for the club’s biggest matches.

His refusal to renew does not force PSG to sell this summer. With two years remaining on his contract, the French champions have considerable negotiating power in a market that continues to see outlandish transfer fees. However, currently it seems in both clubs have a desire to come to an agreement. PSG must decide whether to sell at a premium price now, or risk entering the final year of his contract in 2027 with his market value likely reduced.

Fabrizio Romano reported at the beginning of August that Liverpool and PSG had entered official club-to-club discussions.

According to Romano, Liverpool communicated an intended package valued at more than €100 million. He also cautioned that the initial figures remained considerably below PSG’s expectations and described the negotiations as active but far from an imminent conclusion. Romano added that Barcola was strongly attracted to Liverpool’s project and that agreeing personal terms was unlikely to be the major difficulty.

That supports earlier reporting from Paul Joyce who reported that Liverpool were pushing to construct a deal worth approximately £100 million, while PSG valued Barcola at around £145 million. The difference is not just a minor disagreement over bonuses or payment structures.

What happens next?
Liverpool may attempt to bridge the gap through a larger guaranteed payment with very achievable bonuses . They could also play the waiting game and see whether PSG soften their demands as the transfer deadline approaches. Which seems a big risk, especially with the imminent contract extension of Arsenal target Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid, which could leave Arsenal in the market for a left winger, one who they have been linked to all summer. An optimist would hope that Liverpool's long time admiration for the player, alongside the groundwork in this window would see Barcola choose Liverpool - if presented with the option, Ben Jacob's also says that he believes Liverpool would be the players preference.

There remains optimism for an agreement for the French star, mostly because the player has indicated his strong desire to make the move and formal discussions between the clubs are taking place. Nevertheless, reports suggesting the transfer is completed or close are premature.

As of the 7th of August, i would say Barcola to Liverpool could be regarded as a promising but tough negotiation , I personally view Liverpool's chances of securing the player high, but with the lack of viable experienced wingers - of the required level available, the longer this saga drags on, the more desperate Liverpool could become.
