Huge Liverpool Investment Deal Closing In

Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin are part of a consortium closing in on a minority stake in the club.

Liverpool could soon have wealthy new minority ownership with Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin part of a consortium closing in on a minority stake in the club.

Sky Sports reports that the group, led by former QPR co-owner Amit Bhatia, is in advanced talks to purchase roughly a third of Liverpool, in a deal that would value the club at around £4.4–£4.5 billion. An announcement could even arrive in the coming days.

Paul Joyce has also reported that talks are progressing positively after around three months of discussions with FSG. Importantly, this isn't a full takeover — FSG would remain in control — but it would bring some incredibly powerful investors into Liverpool's ownership structure.

For fans, the interesting part is what happens next. Financial rules mean Bezos' billions can't simply be thrown at transfers, but the investment could open up major opportunities commercially, technologically and with future infrastructure. FSG haven't invested personally into Liverpool FC, instead choosing a self-sustainable model, so there is room for some investment. There are however question marks by some of the fanbase over whether this consortium is a good fit for Liverpool.

It's not the end of FSG at Liverpool yet, but it could be the beginning of a very interesting new chapter. Will this consortium aim to eventually own full control of the club? You would imagine so.
